i-land thoughts (part 2)
so i finished i-land part 2 today, so i guess it's time to... have some thonks?
general comments:
> lol i kind of missed the trainee voting just for the fun of it but at the same time it was nice to see the rise of KIM SUNOO!!! <3
> panic voting is definitely a thing huh... i feel like if the end results actually reflected popularity throughout the course of the show it would be like 1. sunoo 2. heeseung 3. sunghoon 4. jungwon 5. jake 6. jay 7. niki (?) maybe i'm wrong though
> why are the songs weirdly good to me... don't come at me for my shit music taste i guess i will have to accept that my music taste aligns with bighit despite the autotune. or maybe i'm just brainwashed by heeseung's perfect face? idk
lineup thoughts:
> jungwon // lol getting panic-voted to first place huh!? his downward trajectory during the past couple of episodes was interesting... i honestly find it funny/surprising that he struggled so much with cute concepts because HIS SMILE WITH DIMPLES!!? it's so charming! idk why do i always expect the youths to have youthful charm ;; again not too many thoughts here i'm sorry crys. he's talented though!
> jay // screams daniel lost all of his usa fans to jay #ras park. after watching some i-land behind clips and part 2 in general i like him a lot more... there is something about the way he got consistently flamed/embarassed that was endearing + his comedic timing is rlly good. some of my favorite moments: DRINKING HONEY? constant one-sided rivalry with heeseung for no reason, trying to have a heart to heart w/ heeseung but then heeseung is like "i've never been last haha," also his phone call with his mom where his mom was like STOP EMBARASSING URSELF like help he is just trying his best <3
> jake // JAKE. WOW. cannot believe i kinda like this guy now just because of how much sunghoon likes him... am i kind of confused by how much the producers liked him at times? well of course. however the jakehoon bffery was just so strong... also jake is just really kind & nice x__x what a wholesome lad
> ni-ki // screams with the way the season was going at first i'm like "how did he end up in the debut grp" because he was consistently ranking in the lower half... what an underdog (?) narrative? idek if it's an underdog narrative if he's one of the most talented trainees by far oops. i feel like he didn't get that much screentime in the beginning of part 2 besides his weird dispute with k... regardless i'm glad that he made the lineup because sunki bffery is something that is just so important to me,
> heeseung // well. as always i like him so so much <3 especially seeing how he clearly doesn't want to be a leader but kinda just takes the slack/responsibility for things because if not him, then who... and obviously i got very emotional for him when A) he got frustrated over not being perfect during chamber 5 B) when he made enhypen (the first member to make it!! which i feel like is pretty fitting even if the rankings were... interesting). also i'm obsessed with him trying to be cute in general >__< um
> sunghoon // I FEEL LIKE A WHOLE NEW SIDE TO HIM WAS REVEALED !? like before i was like "hmm sunghoon has been kinda boring so far" but i feel like he had so many great moments in part 2. like clearly all the boys are obsessed with his face and his dateability but also his random freakouts during chamber 5... and his fear of vr... park sunghoon u are so perfect to me. wow
> sunoo // hasflkjf;lds watching him during the finale made me lose my mind there is something kind of scary about watching sunoo being so nervous/unsmiley. idk if i got that many new sides to him during part 2 but i definitely continued liking him <3 so glad that he had the chance to be cute/youthful/etc during the svt guest episode + chamber 5 performance
eliminations:
> daniel // i didn't expect him to fall in popularity so much? like wow how did he rank #2 at first. i'm assuming it's because the save me performance, and then after that he didn't really get opportunities to shine because he was in i-land? kinda reminds me of how i think sunoo/daniel rlly got to shine in part 1 because they were in ground even if i was angry they were in ground due to being ~unpopular~ with the others. lol... idk i still like him a lot and if he debuts in a new grp i will probably have to check it out [sigh]

dynamix:
this is so speculative and kind of bad hence why i decided to lock this post. so what from i know, heeseung/jay/jungwon/sunghoon were all bighit trainees together, jake/sunoo/niki all met them through i-land (even though jake was found through bighit, etc).

OBSESSED]. trying to figure out what heeseung thinks of jay is a bit different but he's clearly comfortable enough to camp out on his bed while talking to k so idk... they are the oldest friendship on the show although i think part of it is like heeseung chooses sunghoon over jay a lot when it comes to actual training-related things which is awkward.

so i guess what i'm saying is that enhypen seems to be separated into heejaywon / jakehoon / sunki friendships except sunghoon is special and also has some dynamix with rest of bighit line [he is so shippable to me], and jake is also a rlly nice guy & i've enjoyed his interactions with sunoo. please correct me if u percieve things differently!!!

i'm interested in seeing how this changes especially as i continue to consume more enhypen content... lol

- ranking: i watched it live and literally every time someone got announced i was like "WHAT" in response because everything was so unexpected! my personal predictions were really off—i had no idea panic-voting would influence the rankings THAT much. also i already told u that i thought jungwon was a goner after his downward trend in the last few episodes so to see him nab FIRST! does it make sense? not in the slightest. do i care? uh no that's the first time my fave in a survival show has ever ranked first <333 thank u for the panic votes <333
- song/sound: rip i really don't get it but i will respect u nonetheless. i don't think their stuff is actually that BAD i just a) don't really like heeseung's voice. sorry shakti and b) HATE BIGHIT AUDIO PRODUCTION... WHAT IS WITH THEM AND TURNING ALL VOICES INTO MACHINES!
- jungwon: i know... i thought he was SO cute during chamber 5 performance (though part of that is definitely personal bias) so to see the PDs so hard on him was like. wtf were u guys even looking at jake. sorry ANYWAY i'm actually not surprised he struggles with cute concepts—i feel like he's always been lumped in with older trainees because he's closer to their level talent-wise as opposed to the younger trainees, and so he's used to doing more mature concepts/wanting to be more mature as a result? it's a shame bc i truly think he is so cute and would love to see something fresh from him but oh well. also not too many thoughts here i'm sorry crys. he's talented though! i can't even say anything because i don't really look at anyone else aside from jungwon but also... wow. stake right through the heart
- jake: i agree he is a nice guy i just really don't get it. i also have no clue why everyone on that show loved him so much because comparatively he wasn't even that good...
- niki: omg part of the reason why the PDs treatment of jake got on my nerves so much was because niki was right there!!! oh my god! i don't think he was much of an underdog he just got shafted by all the rankings so badly. i think him being in ground was really necessary for him to learn how to work with a team? because in my opinion he's the most talented one there, which led to some arrogance at first but got tempered out with ground
- sunghoon: i'm sorry i'm losing it at I FEEL LIKE A WHOLE NEW SIDE TO HIM WAS REVEALED because my first reaction was just "what new side" LMAO sorry i just don't get it he is so boring to me
- daniel: I KNOW! when i finished watching i was like "dang how the heck did daniel rank second then?" but i still like him a lot... i'm wishing him well in whatever future endeavors he winds up doing
- chamber 5: i think this was my favorite stage alongside flicker! even though i'll always feel bitter bc of how jungwon did it was still cute and i liked the lineup a lot... it was so funny to see everyone be like "oh god sunoo how do you do it" and also i LOVE jungwon maknae. righteous
- fan-related stuff: yeah that was really heartwarming to see! i have nothing insightful to say just that i agree
- sorry i literally. tried to read ur dynamics + ship ranking section and completely zoned out. maybe one day i'll care about enhypen beyond jungwon lol but that day does not seem like it is coming any time soon
